Starting November 1, 2022 you can add a dental plan directly to your health insurance enrollment application

If your health insurance plan does not provide full dental coverage for adults, stand-alone dental plans are a great option. You can now shop, compare and enroll in health and dental insurance at the same time through Access Health CT. All health insurance plans available through Access Health CT offer pediatric dental coverage through age 26 under state law, and as an Essential Health Benefit under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Some health plans and programs available through Access Health CT, like the Covered Connecticut Program, include dental coverage for adults. The HUSKY Health Program (Medicaid/CHIP programs) includes dental coverage for children and adults. Employees who have health insurance through their employers but do not have dental included can enroll through Access Health CT.

To enroll in dental coverage, call us at 1-855-805-4325 or compare dental options online.

What do I need to know about getting dental coverage for Plan Year 2023?

Whether you are already enrolled in dental coverage through Access Health CT, or if you are new and want to enroll in a dental plan, you will need to complete an application during the Open Enrollment Period (November 1, 2022 – January 15, 2023). You can apply online, by phone, or in-person. If you want coverage that starts on January 1, 2023, you must complete your application by December 15, 2022. If you enroll between December 16, 2022 and January 15, 2022, your dental insurance will not start until February 1, 2023.

Do you also have health insurance coverage with Access Health CT?

Your stand-alone dental policy is different from your health insurance plan. If you have health insurance coverage through Access Health CT, you will receive information by mail and/or email about how to renew that coverage for 2023. Pay attention to these messages because you may need to take action to continue your health insurance coverage for Plan Year 2023.

Can I enroll in dental insurance if I miss the Open Enrollment Period?

Most people will need to enroll in dental insurance during the Open Enrollment Period, starting on November 1, 2022 through January 15, 2023. Some people can enroll in health coverage at any time of year, but they must meet specific eligibility requirements. Contact Access Health CT to see if you qualify based on a Qualifying Life Event. If you do qualify, a Special Enrollment Period will be set up for you to enroll.

What is a Qualifying Life Event?

A Qualifying Life Event is a change in your life status that makes you eligible to enroll in dental insurance coverage through a Special Enrollment Period. Examples of qualifying life events include moving to a new state, and changes in your family size (marriage, divorce or birth).

What is a Special Enrollment Period?

Any time outside of the Open Enrollment period, during which you and your family have the right to sign up for dental insurance, is considered a Special Enrollment period. You generally qualify for a Special Enrollment Period of 60 days following certain life events that involve a change in family status (i.e., marriage or birth of a child) or loss of other dental coverage. If you do not qualify for the Special Enrollment Period, you cannot purchase insurance through Access Health CT until the next Open Enrollment Period.
